Both SerreKunda East and West Sports Organizations, have informed Gambia Today Sports that, the much watched football Competition in the Country Locally called Nawettan will Kick-start in their respective grounds on the 3rd and 5th of this month beginning with finals of the Super Cup.
The Public Relations Officer Serrekunda West Sport Organization ChibouJeng disclosed that they must organize their annual General Meeting before they start the Nawettan Community football competitions in the Country. The Serrekunda West Super Cup finals between Jarintos and Bundas will take place this Sunday.
According to PRO Jeng, it is a Requirement for the committee to hold the AGM before the start of the competition but they are hopeful that this will take place on Friday.
Jeng also commended the Gambia Football Federation for their support in the rehabilitation works on some of the facilities at the grounds which is nearing completion. These include the perimeter fence, dressing rooms and provision of a water borehole system
Speaking on the qualifiers, PRO Jeng noted that it was hitch-free. He said 51 teams registered and three teams booked their places to the competition proper and only Kanifing Estate FC from last years relegated teams made it to the competition.
“We encountered only one problem during our last year Nawettan, and we are calling on all participating teams and their fans to maintain discipline throughout this year’s tournament.
In Serrekunda East, the Program officer of the Sports Development Organization, EbouLolyConteh explained that league winners Falcons fC will lock-horns with knock-out champions Bantaba FC on Friday at Serrekunda East Mini stadium.
He said that the committee is well prepared for the upcoming competition if comparisons are to be made with their performance last year. He said they lessons have been learnt from past mistakes and assures both the teams and fans of a successful tournament.
According to Conteh despite ongoing rehabilitation work on the grounds, the qualification round went on as scheduled.
He also sent a strong warning to all participating teams to maintain discipline during Nawettan tournament or face stern disciplinary action.
