Sheikh Ba Kawsu Fofana Hails VP for Landmark Judgment at SIC Forum

The renowned Islamic Scholar hailed The Gambian Vice President, Ousainou Darboe for his landmark judgment he delivered at the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) forum.

Sheikh Ba Kawsu FofanaThe judgment was between Council members who are advocating for Muslims in the country to fast and pray the same day with Saudi Arabia and those Muslims in for fasting and praying based on Gambia’s own sighting of the month of Ramadan instead of Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Ba Kawsu Fofana released this remark through social media recently in responding to Vice President Darboe’s address to the members of the SIC and also reacting to the comment made by the President of the SIC, Momodou Lamin Touray during their recent meeting held at the SIC’s headquarters in Kanifing.

“Thanks you, Darboe Jula for delivering landmark judgment at SIC forum which were totally based on Islamic teaching, truth, peace, knowledge, reality and it is also in line with the country’s Constitution and the Law of the land,” Fofana stated.

Fofana described Ousainou Darboe as a well-respected person even when he was not part of the Government much more now that he is the country’s No. 2 citizen he still deserve respect in all forms.

He said Darboe’s address to the SIC members was a testimony to all Gambians that the democracy we are yearning for has come adding that traumatizing the Islamic Scholars in the country will now be the thing of the past in The Gambia.

Sheikh Fofana explained that SIC is an institution that was setup to benefit Muslims in the country: “but if SIC President Momodou Lamin Touray revealed before Gambians at the forum that his office cannot pay their staff means they failed Gambians in their duties”.

“They make the Council as a club but not an institution that should benefit Gambians and let me reminded the SIC President and his members that their term of office expired last month so what next,” Fofana quizzed.

Sheikh Fofana explained: “What SIC’s Sunday meeting invitation letter indicated was that, they are organizing the forum in order to discuss about Imam Malik but during their meeting they completely deviated their topic to the discussion on “Majmou Atu Rawdatul Majaalis”.

Sheikh Fofana described VP Darboe’s present at the meeting as a historic landmark for the Muslim in the country adding that Darboe was to inform Gambians about the stand of the Government on religious matters in the country and also give advice to Muslims.

Fofana reminded Gambians that VP Darboe put the record straight for Muslims in the country by stating that Government will not interfere in religious matters in the country but as a Government also they will not allow any Muslim organization to bring chaos in the country in the name of Islam.

He commended Government through the office of the Vice President for their stand on religious matters in the country unlike Jammeh’s regime where Islamic Scholars were traumatizing in all forms
